Library Visit

In one of the activities that I had done was the visit to the library. I went there for the first time because this course is my first program in the University of Memphis. It was a valuable time I learned how to use the facilities in the library and how important to be attached to the library in order to have a good references and benefit from all the library facilities.
Library representatives, who were there during my visit, were very helpful and knowledgeable. They explained how can I use the facilities of the library and the mechanism of booking a group study room or borrow a book or a media source from the different locations of the library. I was impressed from the organization that the library has and the cooperation of the staff. In the end, library visit was rich of information, I am very glad that I had this experience and I regret that I missed such facility in my previous college life.

The Good Deed

Let me talk about the good thing I did before. That was the small knitted hat for a baby in Africa. When I heard they needed a hat, it was very strange. Everyone knows weather is hot in Africa. I did not know that Africa climate is characterized by a huge different in daily temperature. Young babies cannot adjust their own body temperature by themselves. The knitted hat is used to help them to maintain it. There was a kit for a baby hat. This kit composed a yarn, a needle, and a manual. It was not difficult to follow the manual for a beginner. I washed the hat and sent it to the organization. I spent two hours a day and it took six days. It was wonderful experience because I could do something to help others.

My First Day in New York

Last year in June, I went with my family to New York City. Once we arrived there my dad asked us if we want to take a tour in the city. Although, we were a little bit tired we decided to go with him to see New York City's attractions. Honestly, we could not hide our excitement.
Once we were done with the tour we were starving. We stopped by one of the New York City's restaurants known as "Junior's" we had to wait a few minutes before we were seated. When we sat the waitress gave us the menu, "M M M" it was full of delicious food. I ordered fried shrimp with French fries, the shrimp was cooked beautifully it was so delicious.
After that as you know there is always room for dessert I chose New York blueberry cheesecake. "OH" Once I tasted it "my mood became up lifted." The bottom was flaky biscuits with butter flavor, the middle layer was so smooth and creamy, and the topping was the sweetest blueberry sauce I have ever tried. I enjoyed every single bite of this meal.  Finally, I hope you enjoyed my little story.

Sorry Experience

I have had a big problem. I have known an Amerikan friend for three months. We were playing soccer every Saturday together. The story started when we went to Texas de Brazil, which was very delicious. Suddenly, he said "I lost my wallet." I was surprised. After that, we were looking for his wallet but we could not find it. Also, while we were looking for it, he lost an envelope. He said, "There is about $1900 inside." I thought, today is the worst day for him. The next day, he called me. He said, "Do you have my wallet and envelope?" He thought I took them but I did not take them. I said, "I did not take your wallet and envelope." He did not believe me. I was so sad and angry. Then, he sent text me, "You have 2 days to tell the truth. If you do not, then by Wednesday The police officer will file a report and get a warrant for your arrest and take you to the police station." I could not understand, what happened but I could only say, "I did not take them," because that true. On Wednesday, I did not say anything, so he said, "You did not say the truth, so the police officer will let you know tomorrow." I was disgusted. On Thursday, the police officer did not come, so he told a lie. I was so angry and also disappointed with this American. Sometimes I cannot trust Americans. But I know most Americans are very kind and friendly people. One week later, the police officer was at my room but I was not there. Then he called me and just asked, what happened between me and my friend. That is end of the story. I was relieved. Thank you for helping Alz. It was a really sorry experience.

Medical Miracle Story

From time to time, we hear about a miracle that happened to someone. This is what happened to Dr.Ahmad one of the well-known heart disease specialists in Saudi Arabia.
The story began when he was a medical resident practicing in one of Riyadh's hospitals covering a case of a baby with a hole in his heart along with other medical conditions that this poor baby suffered from. Dr.Ahmad noticed that every time he or his medical team that he was part of examined the baby, his mother was talking to him as if the child was fine. One day, the medical team visited the ward that this baby was staying in with bad news about the condition that they wanted to share with his family. At the end they have the right to know. The doctors talked to the mother in a calm and solemn way telling her that this might be the last day of her baby's life. Dr.Ahmad expected the mother to break out into tears,  not being able to pull herself together. The next day, Dr.Ahmad was transferred to work in another ward for a few weeks and did not know what happened to the baby thereafter.
Seven years later, he went to work as usual  and once he checked in, the nurse called a family of four, the father, mother, a seven years old child, and a one year old baby to his office. The one year old baby was having a problem in his heart and Dr.Ahmad tried to explain to the parents the seriousness of their baby’s condition in a calm way. While Dr.Ahamd was explaining the case, the mother of the baby stopped him and told him about her older kid who was having the same condition and survived by a miracle seven years ago. The mother explained that she is not afraid and it is all in God’s hands. I chose this story because I believe that nothing is impossible and we always should be optimistic.

My First Trip to Walt Disney World

Happiness is the most important thing that people are looking for in their lives. It could be found in many ways, one of them being to travel and have fun in other places. My husband and his brother have suggested a nice trip to Walt Disney World in Orlando, Florida, one of the world's largest and most popular resorts. My sister and I accepted that idea and started planning for the trip to enjoying this wonderful world of theme parks, shopping, entertainment, and water parks. My nephew searched for the best hotels and places to visit, in addition to "Which tickets should we buy?" and "What will it cost?" Finally, I'm so excited about going to Disney World and   hope that we will have to be a fun and happy trip, such as that we wish for.

Amazing Six Flags

Two weeks ago, I went to Atlanta with my friends. We planned to visit ‘Six Flags’ that is a famous amusement park in Atlanta. There is a Rollercoasters, Gyrodrop (fall down from the hightest point in the amusement park), Waterboat (fall down from top of the stair in the boat) and Superman(stand like a superman pose). There is really a lot of fun! The most exciting thing is the Gyrodrop. It goes up slowly and you can see all over the amusement park when you arrive to the top of that. My heartbeat was getting quick. Then as we arrived on top, a narrator said “Five, Four, Three, Two, One Goodbye!”. Finally, we just fell down. The first five seconds I screamed, “wow!”. But, after then even I could not breathe. My heart stopped just a second. When arrived start Line. I just laughed and heartbeat was again getting quick. I said, “One more time! It is awesome. I want to fall down again.” Because Gyrodrop just took my stress away. If you are going to go to Atlanta you have to go ‘Six Flags’.

Japanese Food Restaurant

I would like to introduce about Japanese food restaurant. I have been to "EDO" and "SEKISUI".The first, EDO's tastes like a homely Japanese food, that is very similar because, EDO's chef is Japanese. I have eaten "TENDON," "MIZUTAKI,"  and "SUKIYAKI" at the EDO. TENDON is a bowl of rice topped with tempura. It tastes is more salty than real Japanese food but, I think that one is the best. If you go to EDO, there food it will make you happy. MIZUTAKI and SUKIYAKI, both of like a soup. But, MIZUTAKI's tast is the weak, SUKIYAKI's tast is strong. These three things are really good foods.Second, SEKISUI's tast is Americanized but, they have "TAKOYAKI."  TAKOYAKI came from my hometown Osaka. When I ate TAKOYAKI here, I was so happy. It taste likes very similar. It was very delicious!!In the end, EDO is cheaper than SEKISUI so My recommend for a Japanese restaurant is "EDO". If you want to eat Japanese food, you should go to EDO.

Making Lemon Toner

I have sensitive skin. Memphis’s weather is not good for my skin, so yesterday I decided to make my own skin toner. I needed Sake, a Japanese rice wine, lemon, and glycerin. First, lemon had to disinfect in vinegar for 30 minutes. Then a bottle for storing the lemon toner had to boil. After that, I cut the lemon in small pieces, put it into Sake, and added in a little bit of glycerin. I put it in the refrigerator because it takes three weeks to ripen. I use the lemon toner only at night because lemon has vitamin C that can make freckles. Making lemon toner is easy and good for my skin.

My Career Journey

Once I graduated from the College of Science in King Saud University, division of Mathematics back in January 2007, I started looking for a job as a teacher since I like teaching. Luckily, I found a vacant position in one of well-known intermediate schools in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, and I took it.  I started teaching from the day that I was appointed in, and what a surprise! I always looked at teaching as a comfortable profession where all what the teacher has to do is standing and explaining simple rules and math principles compared to what I have learned in the college. Unfortunately, this was not the case when I was confronted with the realty. Teaching requires a lot of patience, skills, and efforts as well as love and here I mean that you need to love teaching in order to be a good teacher, otherwise your life will be miserable. Anyhow, after teaching for couple of months I realized that teaching is not for me and I cannot afford spending an extra moment of my life in that field; so I decided to resign and rest at home for a couple of months. After resting at home for almost a month and thinking about my next step and what should I do other than teaching, an idea came to me. Why should not I start a home business? I am good at baking and there are not so many professional females bakers in Saudi Arabia and in Riyadh in particular. Then, this idea became even stronger in my mind when I saw Martha Stewart's show at that moment I realized that such a project is not only feasible but needed as well, and this was my first step in the right direction. So I bought all the material needed and participated in small exhibition for females entrepreneurs and distributed free samples of cookies and cupcakes for the attendees as well as my business cards and this was the start for me. Thereafter, people started to know me and place orders for cookies and cupcake something that I could not handle alone so I asked my cousin to help me by answering the calls and taking the orders. My business expanded and I made logo for my products ''Miss Cookies''. However, I was forced to suspend my business since I got engaged since I have to travel to be with my husband. Being away from my country will not deter me from proceeding in this path that I chose for myself. Here,  I will seize every single moment to learn and enlighten myself with new and brilliant ideas and who knows what the future holds for us.

My Dream of Obtaining a Patent

I always think that if the determination is present, we will get what we want. Since I began PhD in 2009, I always dream to obtain a patent. A patent is a property right for an invention granted by a government to the inventor. I started thinking about choosing a new and useful topic for my thesis. I decided to choose a topic in nanotechnology, because it is a new and interesting field. Nanotechnology refers to the study of compounds of 100 nanometers or smaller in one dimension. I chose the subject "Biosynthesis of nanoparticles by marine macro-algae and their medical application" and I carried out many experiments. Through those experiments , I have reached a new method for preparing nanoparticles. To protect my idea, I have made a request for filing a patent at the European Patent Office to give me the right to prevent others from making, using, or, selling the invention without my permission. This month, on the June 5, 2012, my patent application has been filed. Now, I'm waiting for the results and I am confident that with persistence we can achieve any dream.

My Favorite Movie

My name is Sungran Lee. I want to talk about my favorite Japanese animation movie we called Japanimation. My favorite movie is My Neighbor Totoro(となりの トトロ). Totoro is a monster, who lives in a forest and only children can see him. Someday two girls who are Mei and Sazki moved in to a country yard where Totoro lived. When Mei was cleaning her house, she found strange things and followed them so she met Totoro. And then they have experienced a lot of strange things. One day, Mei had corn that she wanted to bring to her mother who was in a hospital. So she went to her mother; however, she didn’t know where the hospital was. Eventually, she lost her way but Totoro found her and brought her home with his friends. Whenever Mei and Sazki need his help, Totoro helps them.
I have a reason to like this movie. Totoro is a true friend. Whenever their friend needs help, they help and stay with them.
